Sustainable Education

“For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.”

For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.

- Apostle Paul

Excerpts from his letters to the church of Thessalonica

The Levites Academy strives to be a self-sustaining school …

through stewardship of the resources God gives us. Farming and agriculture on our campus will both generate income for student scholarships and provide learning opportunities within our integrated curriculum. We believe people are Imago Dei, made in the image of God, created for good works. Continual charity leads to unhealthy dependency, while discipleship and training, such as at The Levites Academy, is empowering and enables students, families, and their community to live as they were created to.

Farming Update:

The Levites Academy team continues the work of developing a self-sustaining school. We are happy to report that our goat gave birth to a baby girl in November! This winter, the first batch of piglets are expected to be born. The gilts (young female pigs) are ready to mate. We thank God for the new life that is blossoming on The Levites Academy land He kindly blessed us with. The land has also been prepared for crops, as four acres were cleared out and corn, or "maize" as it is called in Uganda, was planted. When the maize has grown and is harvested, some of it will be used as feed for our animals, some will be given to the caretaker of the land for food, and the rest willbe sold for income. The team is also hoping to plant passion fruit vines soon along the newly installed barbed wire fence.

The Perfect Location

It is no doubt God chose this land to be the home of The Levites Academy. The land is fertile for growing crops and the scenery is spectacular, perfect for a self-sustaining, bi-vocational school. The community is largely subsistence farmers. Located 7 miles away from Lugazi on the Kampala - Jinja highway, the property is in a very strategic spot. Within a two mile radius of the land there are three churches and two primary schools, but no secondary school. Students in the area and neighboring communities have to walk up to two hours each way to get to the nearest high school and the closest medical facility is 7 miles away, a very long distance given that bicycles are the main mode of transportation. The Levites Academy will be a great and needed addition to this community.
